
Bantwal, Aug 19, 2023: Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan has ordered a probe by KSFC officials in connection with the missing of thousands of quintals of rice worth over Rs one crore from the stock of the Food Department meant to be distributed to ration card holders under PDS.
Checking of accounts have revealed that 3892 quintals of rice worth around Rs 1,32,36,300 was missing. Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Corporation officer Sharath Kumar Honda has lodged a complaint at Bantwal Town Police station alleging irregularities.
The complaint was lodged after difference was noticed in the quantity of rice stocked at the godown in front of the KSRTC depot at BC Road.
The godown supervisor Vijay has been taken into custody. Operation is underway to arrest all accused based on the information provided by Vijay during interrogation.
Meanwhile, local MLA Rajesh Naik has written to the Deputy Commissioner seeking a probe into the irregularities and he also said public too have been complaining of the irregularities.
On Friday, Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan, SP C B Rishyanth and other officials visited the godown and held discussions with officials.
The Deputy Commissioner later said as there was a difference in the rice stocked in the godown, the matter has been brought to the notice of the KSFC. He said he has asked the state level officials of the KSFC to visit the godown and investigate.
