Udupi, Aug 09, 2023: The POCSO Court of Udupi has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in a case of sexual assault on a minor girl four years ago in Kota.

The convict is Ashok A (32) from Balakudru in Brahmavar taluk. Ashok had befriended the 15 year old minor and had taken her in his car forcibly to the house of his accomplice where he raped her and threatened against divulging the matter with anyone.

When the family members found that the girl looked distraught, questioned her when the incident came to light. The then DySP had investigated the case and had filed a charge sheet.

The convict is a married man. The court has also imposed penalty of Rs 23,000 on him out of which Rs 13,000 was to be paid to the victim and Rs 10,000 to the government. The court has also directed the government to pay a compensation of Rs one lakh to the victim.
