Mangaluru, Dec 14, 2022: A guidance camp for bus drivers and conductors was organised at the St Sebastian Hall in the city on December 13, Tuesday under the aegis of the DK District Bus Operators’ Association and Karavali zone City Bus Operators’ Federation.

Gopalkrishna Bhat, Inspector of Mangalore East Traffic Police Station, said such programmes are essential to guide the bus drivers and conductors on adherence to traffic rules and on the need to be courteous towards the passengers. Pointing out that competition is inevitable in the present times, he made it a point that it should be a friendly competition that should not endanger other lives.

Jayasheela Adyantaya, President of the Bus Operators’ Association, said organising such programme was not possible in the past two years due to Covid. He also pointed out how the income of buses have reduced by 20 to 25 percent as most people have opted to have their own vehicles rather than travel by city buses,.

Dilraj Alva, former president of the Bus Operators’ Association said the private bus operators have provided direct employment to around 10,000 people.

On this occasion, uniforms to drivers and ID cards to conductors were distributed. Kadri SI Vijay Kumar, DK Bus Operators’ Association former president Nelson Pereira, General Secretary of Karavali Zone City Bus Operators’ Federation Ramachandra Pilar and others were present.
