Puttur, Aug 16, 2023: The death of a teenager who was admitted to a private hospital in Puttur for intestine related problem, triggered a protest by family members and Dalit organisations who alleged that medical negligence was the reason for the boy’s death. They also staged a protest by placing the dead body of the youth in front of the hospital on August 15, Tuesday.

The protestors demanded action against doctors and a compensation of Rs 15 lakhs to the family of the boy. They also threatened a severe protest in front of Puttur town police station if justice was not done in three days.

The deceased boy is Srijith (17), son of Sanjeeva of Shantinagar. The boy had undergone a surgery at a private hospital at Puttur last Saturday. However when his health deteriorated he was shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru where he died. Later the family alleged medical negligence of Puttur Hospital and staged a protest but later withdrew after the Tahsildar arrived at the spot and assured to consider their demands.

Doctors at the Puttur Hospital where he was treated, said he was suffering from Sigmoid Volvulus gangrene and was recuperating after surgery but his health deteriorated following high fever and breathing problem. Doctors also said he died after bacteria entered blood stream after the surgery.
