Mangaluru, July 08, 2023: Lokayukta police have trapped a school correspondent red-handed while she was accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakhs for signing the documents of a teacher of the school who was set to retire.

The arrested woman is Jyothi Poojary, the correspondent of Sri Niranjana Swami Aided Higher Primary School of Bajpe.

Shobha Rani who had served as a teacher of the school was set to retire and the correspondent had to sign some documents relating to pension as it had to be submitted to the Block Education Officer. However, the correspondent had reportedly demanded Rs 20 lakhs and later reduced it to Rs 5 lakhs.

The aggrieved teacher had complained to the Lokayukta and the correspondent was trapped on Friday while she was accepting the bribe.
