Belthangady, April 10, 2023: A woman lost her life while five others sustained injuries when the car in which the Ujire Gram Panchayat President’s family members were travelling from Kottigehara to Ujire fell into a gorge at the second curve of Charmady Ghat on April 9, Sunday night.

The deceased is Sarojini Shetty while the injured are Ujire GP Chief Pushpavathi Shetty, her daughter Poornima Shetty, grandson Samridh, Sakshi and car driver Arun. All of them were returning after attending a funeral at Koppa in Sringeri. The injured have been admitted to hospital.

As soon as the accident came to light, SDPI Charmady unit Chief, Apathbandhava Sinan Charmady and other local residents assisted in the rescue operations.

The GP Chief Pushpavathi has suffered a fracture in her hands while her daughter has suffered head injuries.
